Frequently Asked Questions

I participated in Scholars Day. What now?
All Scholars Day participants receive a Wayne State Scholarship, a tuition scholarship valued at $2,000 a year for 4 years. After Scholars Day, selected students will receive increased scholarship offers, up to and including Presidential Scholarships, and other scholarships. Award notifications will be sent to students in March. There will be a deadline for accepting or declining the award offer included with your contract.

How is the amount of my scholarship award determined?
Awards are based on your performance in the group interview; written essay; high school GPA; and ACT or SAT scores. Students may accept only one award funded from the Wayne Student University Presidential Scholarship program, including the University Scholarship, the Presidential Scholarship, the Wayne State Scholarship and the WSU/DSO Scholarship.

If I attend an earlier Scholars Day date, do I have a better chance at a larger scholarship?
No, the date that you attend Scholars Day does not impact the amount of your scholarship award.

Can my parents attend?
You can bring up to 2 guests to Scholars Day. You and your guests will attend several presentations together then students will go to interview sessions and guests will attend a panel discussion. Students and guests will meet later for lunch and a campus tour.

How do I join the Irvin D. Reid Honors College?
All Presidential Scholars will be invited to join the the Honors College. In addition, select students will be invited to apply to the Honors College based on academic achievement and other criteria.
